My research aims to establish an integrated Economic Sociology of Innovation. I work on innovation, entrepreneurship, and collective learning as they relate to social structures of competition, collaboration, and valuation. Based on this, I have worked, inter alia, on innovation systems, innovation policy, competitive advantage, risk communication, and crisis governance. Recently, inspired by the Covid pandemic, I have added a focus on structures of pacing and urgency. The overarching question is what this approach implies in terms of governance for grand challenges and for successful and sustainable transformations—including standards for just and responsible transition.Â
Trained as an Economic Sociologist, my interdisciplinary work draws, among others, from Economic Sociology, Technology Assessment, Science and Technology Studies, Economic Geography, Evolutionary Economics, Comparative Politics, and Organization Studies.
